TRAVEL TIPS
A List of Useful Tips For The Sophisticated Traveler.

Tipping

What is the rule of thumb for tipping?

In Europe, Taxis/Drivers/Guides a tip of 5 to 10% is customary. In Restaurants a tip of 5 to 10% is customary and generally a service charge is added to your check. On Cruise Ships, plan on tipping $8-$9 per person, per day, for maid service, wait staff and other services. This is personally handed to staff the last evening of the cruise (you'll find envelopes placed in your cabin that day). Just consider it part of the cost of the cruise and, unless the service was terrible, graciously give it to them. Tipping is really their pay, and most cruise service staff members only make between $65 and $100 per month in salary from the cruise line!

What to Pack

What type of clothing and items do I need to pack for my trip?

One of the most common questions we receive from our clients is: "What type of clothing do I need to pack for my trip?" The answer largely depends on what type of vacation you are taking and what type of weather you will encounter in the area(s) that you are traveling to. Most importantly pack only the items you will need. Most of the airlines have baggage and weight limits and the majority of the places you will travel to have Laundry Service or coin-operated launderettes available, so pack lightly. Basic Items: Shirts/Blouses Pants/Shorts Dresses/Skirts Pajamas/Slippers/Bathrobe Blazer/Jacket/Sweater/Rain Coat Underwear/Lingerie/Socks/Hose Dress Shoes/Walking Shoes/Sneakers Belts/Handbags/Ties/Scarves Cold Weather: Boots Gloves Hat or Scarf Heavy Socks Heavy Sweater Long Underwear Winter Coat/Jacket/Vest Warm Weather: Swimsuit Coverup/Sundress Hat or Scarf Sunblock/Sun Tan Lotion Sandals Sunglasses T-shirts Most Hoteliers and Cruise ships provide basic toiletries and hair dryers these days, but you may prefer to bring your own. Remember, you may need to bring a Electric Converter with you depending on what countries you are traveling to. Basic Toiletries: Toothbrush/Toothpaste Shampoo/Conditioner Deodorant/Antiperspirant Cologne/Perfume/Powder Razor/Extra Blades/Shaving Creme Comb/Brush Hair Dryer/Hair Curler Hair Spray/Mousse/Gel Makeup/Makeup Remover Nail Polish/Nail Polish Remover Nail File/Emery Board/Nail Clipper Miscellaneous Items: Adaptor/Converter Sets First Aid Items Camera/Video Recorder/Film Binoculars Travel Alarm Clock Prescriptions/Pill Case /Extra Copies Extra Eyeglasses/Contact Lenses Extra Dentures/Denture Copies of Passports and Credit Cards Expandable Tote Bag for Purchases Umbrella/Rain Poncho Travel Iron Laundry Kit Sewing Kit Money Belt/Passport Case Plastic Bags/Rubber Bands Feminine Sanitary Products Roll of Toilet Paper (Just in Case!) Common carriers with financial difficulties are becoming increasingly common. Purchasing trip cancellation/ interruption coverage from a third party like Travelex can protect you and your trip investment against such an occurrence. 3.
